Partnership case study
A story about mentorship and timing, and the rare gift of building alongside someone who once shaped you, with her perspective woven in.

She hired me out of college. Years later, I hired her
She was the first designer I ever reported to, and she shaped how I think about craft, care, and leading a creative team. So much of how I work traces back to those early years with her.
After those early years, we grew in different directions. Our careers took us to new companies and new challenges, and for a long stretch our paths simply ran in parallel.
Then the timing lined up. I was leading creative at another company and needed a designer I trusted completely, and there she was. The person who once trained me joined a team I led. I set the direction, shared the context on our audience, and kept the work on track, while she brought it all to life in the design. We partnered on production, project management, and branding.
The work
She handled the design and production, turning direction into polished, on-brand work at pace.
I set the creative direction and gave her everything she needed to run with it.
I ran scope, timelines, and the steady rhythm that kept the work moving.
Together we extended the visual system and kept every piece consistent as it shipped.
In her words
A short conversation with June of Bella Pixel Studio about working together again.
“Honestly, it was one of the best full-circle moments of my career. I hired Stefanie fresh out of college, and even then you could see the heart and talent she had. Coming back years later to work with her, this time with her leading, was such a joy. She had grown into exactly the kind of creative leader I always hoped she would become, and building alongside her again felt completely natural.”
“Stefanie made it so easy to do my best work. She came in with a clear vision and everything I needed to run with it, from direction to context to the little details most people forget to share. I never had to guess what she wanted or chase down assets, and that freed me to focus entirely on the craft instead of the logistics.”
“How much she trusts and protects the people she works with. Stefanie gives you room to create while still holding a high bar, which is the balance every designer hopes for. It never felt like working for someone, it felt like making beautiful things together, and that is the highest compliment I can give a collaborator.”
The people you meet early come back around
It is a good reminder that careers are long and the industry is smaller than it looks. How you treat people early tends to find its way back to you, and some of the best collaborators are the ones you have known all along.
